Ten Mile Bank Riverside Academy

Music

At the Riverside Federation we believe all children have the right to experience the beneficial effects of music making; to feel confident with exploring and expressing their inner music and to learn how to use music as a means of communication.

We have developed a music curriculum that follows the natural musical development of the child, starting with the simple structures present in nursery rhymes, followed by the exploration of pentatonic scales typical of folk music and then moving on to exploring the full scale, more complex rhythms and forms and a wide range of music genres. By the end of year 6, children will have had the opportunity to play tuned bells, ocarinas, recorders and ukuleles; they will have experienced performing in group and solo; they will have experienced music composing and they will have been exposed to carefully selected musical pieces of the major musical periods.

We know, that by nurturing the protomusicality of children, we facilitate their intellectual and emotional development, but we also give them the key to a universal language that will help them become respectful, tolerant, accepting members of our society, ready to embrace diversity.
